A group of Melbourne kids have had the experience of a lifetime with a visit from a group of former Brazilian World Cup soccer players who took the kids through their paces at a fun-filled soccer clinic at ‘Woodlea’ in Melbourne’s west.
Held late last month, the soccer stars, which included Paulo Silas, Carlos Luciano da Silva, and Luiz Felipe, took the kids through a variety of soccer drills and taught them some new tricks including mastering ball control, passing, headers, and dribbling.
This is the third Australian visit for many of the players, returning with the Tour of Hope; an organisation which commenced back in 2008 and has travelled the Asia Pacific Region playing friendly charity matches, conducting soccer clinics and inspiring young children.
Along with the chance to develop their soccer skills and learn some new tricks, children also had the chance to get autographs from players with a brand new soccer ball to take home from the day.
Held in conjunction with Tour of Hope, this year’s clinic took place at Woodlea’s brand-new, state-of-the-art sporting precinct, which features two AFL-sized ovals, 10 tennis courts, a sporting pavilion, adventure playground and youth areas.
The soccer clinic was held as a special event for Woodlea residents, who were invited to participate as part of the community’s commitment to healthy living.
Located 29km west of Melbourne’s CBD, Woodlea is putting its focus on a number of best-practice facilities which are helping to foster a healthy lifestyle for its soon to be 10,000 residents in a move which Woodlea Project Director, Matthew Dean, says is contributing to the development’s sales success.
“ Woodlea is not like any other development – we are committed to delivering key amenities and activities that will create a vibrant community at Woodlea and will foster a healthy and active lifestyle for its residents.
“ We take pride in being a community that helps foster healthy and active lifestyles, particularly among children, so we were thrilled to not only host this clinic for the third consecutive year but to be able to hold the event on home ground for the first of what we hope are many years to come,” he said.
Over the coming years, Woodlea will deliver a 5,700sqm new town centre including a public square, central park and plaza fringed by retail spaces and a major supermarket, as well as professional services, office space and a bus interchange.
